AMELIA
ISLAND, Florida — Steve McQueen's slate-gray
1970 Porsche 911S, featured in the opening sequence of
the 1971 film Le Mans, has been consigned to RM
Auctions' annual Monterey sale this August.
The car, which later joined McQueen's personal collection, will be displayed this weekend at the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance.
The auction house says the vintage Porsche, now owned by a private collector, is in "exceptionally original condition."
Inside Line drove McQueen's Porsche in Southern California in 2008 with owner Jesse Rodrigues, referring to the car as "the most iconic Porsche" and detailing its provenance.
McQueen, who owned one of Hollywood's renowned sports-car collections, died in 1980 at age 50.
Inside Line says: Even if you can't afford the car, the movie still belongs in your collection. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
